A Profile in Strength
When you meet Rena Moriguchi you instantly sense there’s something unique about the woman. And it’s not just the heavily calloused knuckles, which you’d sort of understand anyway, once you found out she’s a student of the legendary Sensei Keith Geyer (7th dan). There’s something about her which is unafraid of confrontation. Her eyes tell you she’s up for a good fight. Unlike most women you might know in the dojo who battle the instinct to apologise for being tough (yours truly included), this lady prides herself on her kumite. “Next time you visit, let’s fight!” Well, after training with her in the dojo, and seeing her punching and kicking through nearly 2 hours of complicated technique combos, I took that invitation as a compliment.
